This month two State Advocacy Committee volunteers went to the Colorado State Capitol to encourage legislators and their staff to participate and to encourage their own communities to in being more active.

While having lunch one August day after hours of playing a rousing game of Ultimate Frisbee, Anand Raghunathan began to display bouts of confusion and irritability to his friends. After unsuccessful attempts to reason with him, his friends decided to seek medical attention when they realized there may be something seriously wrong. 

November 18, 1998 was the day Erin E. Herring started on her journey into the world of physicians, hospitals and fear; that was the day her son Gavin was born.

My family and friends is why

Deb Wells was caught by surprise when she suffered a stroke in 1998 while on a business trip with her husband in Maui. Seven years after the stroke, she was finally diagnosed with sick sinus syndrome, and has since had two pacemakers implanted. Deb is grateful every day to be alive and shares her personal story often as a You’re the Cure advocate.

Typically, we spotlight one volunteer who has gone above and beyond for the mission of the American Heart Association. This month we find ourselves with a group of Heart Walk volunteers in Oklahoma that showed up and showed out to help the AHA build a community free of cardiovascular disease and stroke regardless of the weather that put a cloud over the Sooner State!
