For the past two months I’ve been an intern and volunteer at the American Heart Association for their advocacy department. During my time here, I’ve had a lot of great life changing experiences. I have also had the privilege to help with a few events as well.

Shortly after my wife began her career at the American Heart Association, I started responding to the action alerts she sent out. Initially, I did it to support her. I didn’t realize how much it would end up supporting me.

I am Mark Wyatt, and I am the executive director of the Iowa Bicycle Coalition. We work on bicycling issues across the state, but our biggest goal is to make bicycling safe and enjoyable.

As we grow up, we look up to those that lead by example. They overcome insurmountable obstacles to achieve their hopes, their dreams, their goals. They give us hope when we need it most, and inspire us to do more.
