Beginning on October 16th, hundreds of heart and stroke advocates from across the country will travel to Washington D.C. for 3 days of advocacy filled action at our biannual You’re the Cure on the Hill event (YTCH). Highlighted by our trip to Capitol Hill to meet with Representatives, Senators and their staff, YTCH will be 3 days of action, including an Advocacy Academy to train advocates on new tactics and techniques to help make an impact on local state and federal policy, an advocacy awards dinner and of course fun!

The theme of this year’s event will be “Paving the Path Forward.” Over the course of the 3 days, we will take a look at what we’ve done for heart and stroke advocacy, and look ahead to the path forward and how we can accomplish even more in our goal to be a relentless force for a world of longer, healthier lives. While hundreds of advocates will be in Washington D.C., you don’t have to be in the Capital to participate and help us pave the path forward. In the coming days we will launch a campaign to ensure that anyone, from any part of the country can participate through our Virtual You’re the Cure on the Hill. Throughout the next month, please be sure to check your inboxes as we will periodically send fun, interactive ways for advocates to make a BIG IMPACT by participating in YTCH from their own homes!

After a day of training and fun, advocates will head to Capitol Hill to meet with their Members of Congress. This year, advocates will ask their Representatives and Senators to help us pave the path forward by:

  • Increasing funding for life saving medical research and prevention programs at the National Institutes for Health (NIH) and the Centers for Disease Control
  • Passing legislation that would protect patients from financially crippling surprise medical bills
  • Passing legislation to ban the sale of flavored tobacco products which have helped fuel a new youth tobacco epidemic, including electronic cigarettes, cigars, and menthol cigarettes.

We will be sure to share updates about the event as it gets closer, but for now consider this your save the date! Join us for 3 days of advocacy fun and engagement starting on October 16th. Everyone, whether you will be in Washington D.C. or not can participate and play a role in helping us pave the path forward so please make sure to check your inboxes throughout the next month for easy, fun and impactful ways you can help. Always remember, in the fight against heart disease and stroke… You’re the Cure!!!
