For over a year, we have been working to pass legislation that would require all newborn babies to be given a pulse oximetry screening for critical congenital heart defects before they leave the hospital. Iowan babies died from undetected CCHD, that otherwise could have been saved if pulse oximetry was administered after birth.  The American Heart Association led the efforts in passing this life-saving legislation!  We’re happy to report that Governor Branstad plans to sign this bill on Wednesday, July 17th at 9:30am in his office at the Iowa State Capitol.

Once the Governor signs this legislation into law, we will be able to protect and help ALL Iowa babies from critical congenital heart defects.  Thank you to all the volunteers, staff and partners who gave of their time and effort to make this a reality!
