Summer is a season for kids to spend outdoors enjoying an active healthy lifestyle. This summer, our kids should be enjoying the fun activities our state has to offer, not being lured by addictive, candy-flavored tobacco products that can negatively affect their health.
That is why even though the 2025 Legislative Session is months away we are working hard to raise awareness with legislators about the importance of restricting the sale of addictive, candy flavored tobacco products. These products have been on the market for over a decade hooking a new generation who likely would have never picked up a traditional cigarette. It’s time we push back against the predatory tactics used by the Tobacco industry to hook the next generation.
Cotton candy should be a kids’ favorite treat at the Oregon State Fair, not their favorite flavor of tobacco.
5,500 Oregonians die each year as a result of smoking – more people than alcohol, AIDS, car crashes, illegal drugs, murder, and suicides combined. Our youth are the future of Oregon, but only if they remain healthy. Stopping the sale of flavored tobacco is a step in protecting the health and safety of our kids.
