Winter Weather Tips for Cardiac Patients

 

We all get restless in the long, cold days of winter and it’s tempting to go outside to shovel snow or go for a walk while we encourage physical activity, cardiac patients should be especially careful. The combination of colder temperatures and physical activity increases the workload on the heart. People spending time outdoors in cold weather should avoid sudden exertion, like lifting a heavy shovel full of snow. Even walking through heavy, wet snow or snow drifts can strain your heart.
