Where Are We Now?

In the early morning hours of September 30, the NC General Assembly adjourned the 2015 Legislative Session. As an advocate, you stayed with us during this extra-long session and your voice has helped us move our priorities forward. From the bottom of our hearts, we thank you!
So, where are we now?
We saw significant movement on HB 250: Healthy Food Small Retailer/Corner Store Act this session. The legislation passed the House and was included in the House budget. While it didn't make it to the state budget, we will keep working to build on this year's momentum.
One of the biggest policy decisions was the passage of HB 372: Medicaid Transformation and Reorganization. This legislation makes significant changes in the administration of Medicaid, although questions remain about how these changes will unfold. While that process unfolds, we will be working with partners and lawmakers to identify opportunities to close the coverage gap and assure access to health care for adults earning up to 138% of the federal poverty level.
This year we successfully introduced bi-partisan HB 450/SB 662: Appropriate Funds for Tobacco Use Prevention. Unfortunately, these bills saw no movement. 2016 presents another opportunity to continue our efforts to restore funding for these important programs.
The legislature returns on April 25, 2016. Between now and then, we can accomplish a lot to move these issues forward. Let's get started today!
