The 2017 legislative session will officially get started on Wednesday, January 4th. In addition to significant budget challenges, the legislative body will consist of many newcomers to the chamber. Only 15 senators have served in more than two legislative sessions and 17 senators were just elected in November. A major challenge for this assembly is closing the nearly $900 million gap between projected revenues and spending for the two-year budget period ending June 30, 2019. What should Nebraskans be watching for in the upcoming legislative session?
