What's the Next Best Thing to Wiping Heart Disease and Stroke Off the Map? Putting Quality Healthcare On It!

The next best thing to wiping heart disease and stroke off the map is putting quality healthcare on it. This is why hospitals from Louisville, Lexington, Paducah, Ashland, Bowling Green, Owensboro, Somerset, Elizabethtown, and northern Kentucky formed the group, SEQIP, five years ago in collaboration with the American Heart Association/American Stroke Association and the Kentucky Heart Disease and Stroke Prevention Program.

SEQIP assembles regularly to collaborate discussing newest advances in the scientific guidelines for the treatment of stroke patients. They share clinical best practices, develop outreach plans for educating smaller community hospitals, engaging EMS providers and assist each other in achieving the coveted certification as a Primary Stroke Center. Since 2005, twenty one hospitals in the state have been certified as Primary Stroke Centers in Kentucky under this initiative.
