Richard comes to the AHA after serving as the External Affairs Director for The Nature Conservancy in Wyoming from 2015 to 2020. Prior to that, he held a similar position with the Wyoming Outdoor Council for eight years. Recognizing that Wyoming’s economy has traditionally been fueled largely by energy development, Richard has worked collaboratively with others to balance energy development with conservation as well as the intersection with healthy living. To quote Richard, “Wyoming has an obligation to make sure we protect all we value in our state – our open spaces, world-class wildlife, outdoor recreation opportunities, clean air and water, and our most valuable asset –our people and their health. I am excited to be joining the American Heart Association and have the opportunity to work with You’re the Cure advocates and our elected leaders to build a healthier Wyoming.”

Richard, a Wyoming native, lives in Lander (and looks forward to relocating soon to Cheyenne) with his wife, teenagers, three dogs and two chickens. He enjoys reading, staying up on current events, history, running, cycling, camping, hiking, fishing, and endless home remodels. Richard is incredibly excited to join the AHA and SW region teams and to continue to help make a difference for people."

Please join me in welcoming Richard!
