We hope you’re as ready as we are to begin our 2015 session! On January 14th, our state legislators were sworn in – and our full legislative session starts on January 28th. We are so excited to begin a new year with our North Carolina advocates as we work to build a healthier NC. Here are the items which we will be focusing on in 2015.
Increase Availability of Healthy Foods – secure public funding to create a Healthy Corner Store initiative that increases the amount of healthy food offered in existing corner stores in low and moderate income communities, and secure funding to create a Healthy Food Financing initiative to increase the number of healthy food retail outlets in underserved communities.

Access to Health Coverage - We will support closing the coverage gap for the uninsured in North Carolina to ensure statewide access to the health care. Individuals who suffer from or are at risk for heart disease and stroke need access to care and closing the coverage gap can help them get services they need.
We’ll also be working to:
Support an increase in North Carolina’s cigarette excise tax by $1.00 per pack and support an excise tax increase on other tobacco (non-cigarette) products to a tax rate equivalent to that of cigarettes.
Local healthy vending policies in Charlotte, Raleigh, Mecklenburg, and Wake Counties.
