Meet Kaitlyn Lucas

On April 22nd 2016, I was diagnosed with Pericarditis, a bacterial streptococcal infection that attacked my heart and hospitalized me for several days.

I was unable to exercise for over 3 months, was placed on three different types of medication, and now must go for regular checkups with a cardiologist at the young age of 21.  This is something that completely shocked me and brought to light the importance of staying heart healthy.

In Pennsylvania, there is no law in existence that requires students be trained in CPR before graduating high school.  As Miss Pennsylvania International 2017, I became a certified CPR Instructor.  My goal is to create awareness and educate schools on the importance of knowing these life-saving skills.

I support legislation that ensures all high school students receive a one-time, 30-minute training in hands-only CPR.  Studies have shown that survival rates can double or triple with this basic training.
