Virginia wraps up a quick legislative session.

Next week marks the end of the 2023 legislative session in Virginia. This whirlwind session still managed to keep us on our toes as several issues came up that our advocacy team and advocates took action on to address heart health in the Commonwealth.

This session we successfully fought back a junk health insurance bill, sought funding for CPR in schools, and helped defeat a bill that would roll back taxes on cigars, which are already low and have been increasingly popular among youth.

It’s thanks to the great work of our advocates and team that we were able to tell the story of why the state should have heart health in mind when making policies – and it paid off! Thank you to all of you who stood up for health and told your legislators to do so as well.

Next up, fight for heart health at a local level – so keep an eye out for ways to take action in your community!
