Update on Medicaid Funding

The 2021 legislative session is underway and one of our priority issues is protecting funding for Medicaid programs, and ensuring all eligible Idahoans have access to the care and coverage they need. Difficult times, like the current economic downturn and pandemic, have significantly increased the need for Medicaid access. Thankfully, Governor Little recently backed away from his request to cut the budget for Medicaid programs, and with the record $630 million surplus the state has seen this year, we want to ensure Medicaid remains fully funded.

Legislators introduced a bill last week that proposes to stabilize Medicaid funding into the future, ensuring our friends and neighbors are not at risk of losing vital health care. Also, Your Health Idaho, Idaho’s health insurance exchange, will open a special enrollment period from March 1st through March 31st for those eligible to obtain coverage.

We are cautiously optimistic that these moves mean Medicaid programs in Idaho will not have their funding cut but we will continue to monitor things closely just in case. Please keep an eye out for emails from us in case we need you to reach out to legislators.
