Update Ohio: Stroke Policy

I know we've been talking about stroke care in Ohio for a long time.  Improving all of the pieces that make for a stroke system today and into the future is challenging.  Fortunately, Ohio has made improvements since our first Burden of Stroke report in 2006.  However, we can do better.

House Bill 427 seeks to take us to the next level.  By focusing on the patient, we can align the pieces of stroke care to be fast and guideline centric.  One of the most important pieces of the bill provides for a stroke registry.  By combining available data sets, we can see what we are doing well and where we need to make additional improvements - both at the state level and regionally.

We can't prevent every stroke, but we can make sure Ohio patients receive the best chance for the best outcomes!

So, on this World Stroke Day, I urge you to join in the support of HB 427.  Visit the Action Center and send your message to Ohio legislators.  We need them to pass HB 427 before they leave for the year.

If you work at a hospital, encourage your hospital to support this legislation!  Also, ask other healthcare facilities and providers to support HB 427.

It may be World Stroke Day, but we can make this Ohio Stroke Patient Year!
