Welcome to the Spoken Word Workshops Page and thank you for your interest in the Tobacco Endgame!
Who: Are you a student who is concerned about the impact of tobacco and vaping on their community? Do you know a student who is passionate about ending the tobacco and vaping epidemic among young people in the United States?
What: The American Heart Association will be hosting spoken word workshops on tobacco and vaping for students in January and February 2022. The inspiration for these workshops was this piece: How Long Will You Target Me? created by Ryon Everidge, a social worker, spoken word artist, rapper, and youth pastor based in LA.
Students will be required to attend two workshops, one introductory session and one deep dive, where they will learn about spoken word and how to incorporate the artform into videos and other creative mediums.
During the workshop, students will be in a small group environment where they will start crafting a written piece that will serve as the base for their own spoken word video. Upon completion of the two sessions, students will receive direct feedback on their piece from Ryon.
Students will submit final videos to AHA for a chance to be featured on AHA’s social media. Participants may post their videos on their personal social media pages.
Where: The workshops will be held virtually.
When: We will be offering two timeslots for each session.
- Intro Workshop 1: Wednesday, January 26th 6:30-8:00pm ET
- Intro Workshop 2: Saturday, January 29th, 12:00-1:30pm ET
- Deep Dive Workshop 1: Wednesday, February 9th, 6:30-8:00pm ET
- Deep Dive Workshop 2: Saturday, February 12th, 12:00-1:30pm ET
How: To register for the workshops click the sessions below that you would like to attend and fill in your contact information. The deadline to register is Sunday, January 23rd, 2022. Registration will be limited to 10 students per session. Students will be required to attend two workshops, one introductory session and one deep dive session. Please choose your Intro Workshop date first and then choose your Deep Dive Workshop date.
