Take Action: Support PE in Tennessee

Earlier this year, the American Heart Association supported the Tom Cronan Physical Education Act that would provide Tennessee's elementary students in public schools with physical education (PE) classes at least twice a week. Although the bill didn't pass the state legislature, the Association remains dedicated to the issue.

During the 2018 Tennessee Legislative Session, the American Heart Association will support quality PE in elementary schools. It's not only good for their health, it's good for their minds. Physical education addresses the needs of the whole child. Effective physical education provides the activity kids need for a positive impact on their physical, mental, and emotional health. PE programs improve judgment, reduce stress, and increase self-esteem. Making sure all students are getting physical education is a critical part of keeping kids healthy.
