The Midwest on Capitol Hill

On Thursday, October 17th, 242 volunteer advocates - cardiovascular disease patients, survivors, caregivers, researchers and others - from 48 states took to Capitol Hill in Washington D.C., and met with 249 House and Senate offices. We were there to advocate for a healthier life in every state in the country.

We were lucky to have over 60 advocates representing all 13 of the Midwest states! It was truly a sight to see with all of us walking around Capitol Hill. We continually ran into each other in the hallways of the office buildings, the basement coffee shops, and standing in front of the Capitol itself.

We were there to ask for more research funding, to ban all flavored tobacco products, and to end surprise medical billing. If you want to help us with these issues you can take action from our website here: https://act.yourethecure.org/GSi3ZB3

If you have never joined us at a Federal Lobby Day, it is a truly inspiring experience! The next one will be sometime in 2021, so keep that in mind. Be on the lookout for your State Lobby Day or other events coming up.

As always, thank you for being a part of the American Heart Association and all you do to make the world a healthier place!

Your Midwest Grassroots team,

Jacob Denniston and Melissa Brown
