The Menthol Myth

While many things right now feel like they are on hold, the American Heart Association’s advocacy work continues. Flavored tobacco products and their appeal to youth is something we are working to address across the country.

Last month American Heart Association and some of our coalition partners in Hawaii hosted a free webinar about the issue of menthol flavored tobacco products and why it is so important that any regulations include menthol. We know that not everyone could join us that day so we wanted to share with you a recording in case you would like to learn more about this issue at a time that works for you.

The Menthol Myth

Click here to watch the recording which featured an in-depth presentation by Dr. Rose Marie Robertson, Deputy Chief Science and Medical Officer and Ashley Bell, Vice President of Advocacy Consulting at the American Heart Association. They went over the science behind menthol, why it makes smoking/vaping easy to start and hard to quit and how policy loopholes that leave menthol on the market can undermine the whole fight to keep our kids healthy and safe.

If you have questions about what is happening specifically in your state please reach out to Grace Henscheid. We love hearing from you, our advocates, about any questions your might have or if you want to learn more about how you can be involved.
