In addition to his work as Director of Cardiovascular Core Labs; MedStar Cardiovascular Research Network at Washington Hospital Center, Dr. Federico Asch lends his expertise and his voice to a number of cardiovascular advocacy issues that impact his patients and his community. He has been a spokesperson on a number of heart and brain health issues including as a strong public supporter of healthy kids meals and a reduction of sugary drink consumption for people of all ages. He has inspired his daughter, Lara, to join him in the cause. Lara’s voice has been invaluable to talking with fellow youth about how to live healthier lives and how advocacy issues impact young lives.

Advocacy is a great family project. Together as a family you can support the issues that are core to your family values of giving and caring for others. Next time you attend a training or you are writing your legislator, maybe invite your loved ones to join you! As the Asch’s do, you can also work together as a family to fight for what’s most important to you.
