The 2021 Washington State Legislative Session has Started

On January 11, the legislature convened for the 2021 legislative session. This session will look different than in the past, as it will be conducted mostly virtually. The Capitol building is not open to the public right now and as such, we will not be holding our traditional in person volunteer lobby day. However, it is still vitally important you connect with your lawmaker to raise your voice on important issues. We will continue to provide you ways to make an impact.  Your emails and phone calls will be more important than ever. In addition, there may be opportunities to testify virtually so if that interests you please let me know.

Given projected budget shortfalls, we anticipate the state will face some tough decisions this year.  Our work will be mostly focused in the following two areas:

  • Tobacco and e-cigarette control issues.
  • SNAP (supplemental nutrition assistance program) and funding for other food access programs to help the most vulnerable in our state.

We look forward to working together to build a healthier Washington. Thank you for your support.
