The 2021 Utah State Legislative Session has Started

The legislative session has started, and things are expected to move quickly since it only lasts 45 days. We heard a rumor in the very beginning of session that the Social Services Appropriations Subcommittee was considering cutting a significant portion of the funding for the Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program (SNAP). During an economic crisis, we expect the state will have to make difficult budget cuts. However, in this pandemic, right now, that access to food assistance might be more important than ever before so we moved quickly to connect you our volunteers with the legislators on the committee.

Today I have good news to share, thanks in part to the outreach from volunteers like you the Subcommittee decided NOT to cut funding to the program! While there was some pushback from some committee members, the large majority of legislators recognized the exceptional value of this program.

Thank you for your support and please keep an eye out for future emails from us as we expect there may be a need to protect funding for other important programs.
