The Second City Becomes #1: Chicago Increases Its Cigarette Tax

 

A tobacco policy update from Government Relations Director Mark Peysakhovich:

On November 26, with a vote of 45-5, the Chicago City Council approved a 2014 budget that will raise the Chicago cigarette tax by 50-cents per pack. This comes on the heels of consecutive $1.00 state and county increases over the last two years. The total taxes on a pack of cigarettes bough in Chicago will be $7.17!
