Teresa Whited: Heart of a Volunteer

Teresa began her tenure as an American Heart Association volunteer around the same time she began her position as a nurse practitioner. She participated in her first Heart Walk in 2003 and has since led the Mended Little Hearts of Oklahoma City walk team and become a key advocate for the Heart Association’s advocacy efforts.

Her passion is children, and over the past few years Teresa has engaged in advocacy activities to raise awareness for issues impacting children. She has attended various lobby days on topics ranging from school nutrition to congenital heart disease.

“Taking part in the legislative process is an essential aspect of improving the lives of children in this state” she said. Whether it is directly lobbying at the Capitol or taking a more grassroots approach by writing letters or making phone calls, Teresa knows the importance of staying involved in the process.

“You’re the Cure is a great resource for anyone interested in learning about important issues facing our community” she said. This tool is vital for her to stay on top of what issues the AHA is working on

Teresa is looking forward to continuing to take action and speaking out to decision makers on issues impacting children during the 2014 legislative session.  We are thankful for her commitment to the Heart Association and our mission.
