A Look Back at 2019
2019 was another big year for You’re the Cure, both in Washington D.C. and across the country. Whether you called or emailed, sent tweets or attended legislative meetings with lawmakers, there is no doubt that YTC advocates were a relentless force for longer healthier lives and we made a tremendous impact in 2019!
Tips on having difficult conversations.
With the holidays right around the corner, we know at some point we all will be faced with that one family member or friend bringing up tough subjects that might make you feel uncomfortable.
Meet Melissa Dodge
Melissa Dodge isn’t used to putting herself front and center. She is far more comfortable advocating for the American Heart Association on behalf of her daughter, Brooklynn, who was born with half a heart. But when you ask Melissa what she fears most, it’s not being there to take care of Brooklynn and her other children. That’s a very real concern for this single mom, because despite holding down a part time job Melissa, is uninsured and living in the KanCare Gap.

The Midwest on Capitol Hill
On Thursday, October 17th, 242 volunteer advocates - cardiovascular disease patients, survivors, caregivers, researchers and others - from 48 states took to Capitol Hill in Washington D.C., and met with 249 House and Senate offices. We were there to advocate for a healthier life in every state in the country.

Tobacco 21 – It’s not a moment; it’s a movement
Our work to raise the sale age of tobacco to 21 across the country is proving that it isn’t just a fad, it is what the country wants. Multiple states and over 500 different local communities from all over have already passed Tobacco 21 laws!

May is National Stroke Month
May is National Stroke Month and it’s a good time to make sure we are all aware of strokes. Not only how to prevent and treat them, but how to ensure everyone has access to quality stroke care.

Advocates have the power
We’ve all come to have an interest in heart health in different ways. Some of us might be in the medical field, some may have experienced a heart condition themselves or know someone who has. Whatever the reason, we all see that its important to think about heart health and to act on it in our own lives. We are passionate to work towards a world with less cardiovascular disease and stroke. To live in a world where all people have access to education, care, and resources to be heart healthy. If you’ve been an AHA supporter for a while, you know this is our mission and why we strive to be a relentless force for a world of longer, healthier lives. As a You’re the Cure Advocate, we know you believe in this too and we thank you.
