Beth Crutcher - Kingston Springs, Tennessee
In 1988 I gave birth to a beautiful baby girl, She was 14 days late and I was in labor for 17 hours before the doctors decided to do an emergency C-section because the baby showed some signs of distress and Momma was too. The surgery went well, even though at one point I was desperately begging the anesthesiologist to listen to me, saying "I could not breathe”. He ignored my pleas, so I figured it was only from the epidural/saddle block that I had received, and I thought all was fine.

Sara Joynt, Nashville
When I was 24, I was working a typical day at my first post-college job when I experienced a very sudden and excruciating headache. As I continued a conversation with a co-worker, I began to notice changes in my vision as well as an intensity in pain. We both dismissed these symptoms as telltale signs of a migraine, so I headed to the employee area to “sit it out.” Within a few minutes, my mouth started to tingle and my fingertips went numb.

Lori Anne appeared to be the very picture of health. But after having two sudden heart attacks only one week apart - at the age of 38 – she learned that she had a rare heart condition, one that is usually only diagnosed in autopsies.

Sandra Roberson, Tennessee
It was the most selfish and stupid thing I’ve ever done. At age 30, I was diagnosed with high blood pressure. I wasn’t surprised since it runs rampant in my family, but I was irritated to have to take a pill every day.

Marilyn Boyd, Jackson
Marilyn Boyd was 46-years-old, one day and 90-years-old the next. She couldn’t move her right side and speaking had become difficult — at least that’s what she was told. “I thought that something must’ve been wrong with their ears because in my head, I sounded fine,” Marilyn said. “That’s one of the things of a stroke that’s really strange.” Although she was still 46, Marilyn’s abilities had become so hindered due to her stroke, she felt she was much older.
