Ron Edwards, Alabama
I’m a proud husband and father of four children. At the age of 48, I had very few health problems until I went to work on May 3, 2012.
That morning around 7:15 am, I suffered a stroke. I could barely speak. Somehow, I told a co-worker I was having a stroke and to get me an ambulance. I knew what was happening and I was scared. I was very coherent and could hear all the chaos and everyone talking.

Jonathan Riley, Montogmery
I recently became a You’re the Cure advocate to not only share my story about the importance of heart-healthy lifestyle choices, but to inspire those who may not be making the healthiest choices. It is never too late to make healthier lifestyle choices.

Teresa Williams, Gulf Shores
I'm a mother to five children, ranging in ages from 9 to 25, and a grandmother to two little boys, 1 years old and six years old. I am also a heart attack survivor. On October 5, 2012, I woke up to a pain in my back. This was nothing new; I've had back problems for years. Shortly after I started moving around, I began having pains in my upper arms. My arms felt like they were broken. I felt as if electricity was running through my legs and I started pouring sweat. I managed to tell my husband that something was wrong and he called an ambulance.

August 23, 2016 started like any other day, work, then home, and out for a walk to exercise. However, by the end of this day, life would never be the same for LaKayla Doxie of Tuscumbia. After work, LaKayla went home, changed into exercise clothes, and went for a walk.

Allison Locke, CRNP-C (Mrs. Alabama International 2018)
In August of 2004 at the healthy age of 24, I almost lost my life to a serious heart related illness called bacterial endocarditis, a fatal condition if left undiagnosed. This condition is a bacterial infection that gets into the lining of your heart. It is supposed to be 95% fatal, so the fact that I survived is a miracle and I thank GOD for that. At that time, I was working full time as a registered nurse and going to Florida State University to further my nursing education.

Bob Beaver, Alabama
I had pneumonia in 2007. The way I was feeling felt very much like I felt then, minus the fever. I was tired and fatigued all of the time; I couldn’t do much of anything without stopping to rest; I didn’t sleep well at night, but I would fall to sleep watching television and sometimes in the middle of a conversation. I even fell asleep at the funeral of one of our good friend’s wife. The thought of having heart disease, or anything like it, never crossed my mind.
