Share Your Active Transportation Story

The United States Congress is currently considering a multi-year transportation funding bill. While the majority of funding goes towards surface transportation like highways and railways, we want to ensure that robust funding goes towards programs and policies that help Americans get moving! Active transportation programs help children and families get moving and be active in safe ways.  These programs and policies help build dedicated bike and pedestrian lanes as well as recreational trails. These programs are also a great way to promote physical activity and combat sedentary behavior. Currently, 80% of adults and nearly 75% of children in the U.S. fail to meet recommended amounts of physical activity, and active transportation programs make a BIG impact! Being physically active can help curb weight gain while lowering the chances of chronic illnesses like heart disease!

As we kick off our campaign to ensure Congress prioritizes active transportation programs, we wanted to ask You’re the Cure advocates to share their stories about how they have benefitted or how they hope to benefit from programs like these. Do you have kids that ride their bikes to school? Do you worry that children don’t have a sidewalk to use to walk to a friend’s house? Have you used a recreational trail or bike lane to get outside and get your heart pumping? Do you wish you had a bike path in your community but find that the nearest one is simply too far away? Just want to share your opinion on active transportation?

Let us know. We want to hear from you and your story could help impact how Congress handles their transportation bill! Please take just a minute or two to share your story with us so we can help ensure that heart healthy active transportation programs are a priority for members of Congress!
