Support Quality Stroke Care for North Carolina

Stroke could be anyone's unwelcome visitor, young or old, male or female. We must be prepared. SB 456 will provide quality of care guidance for facilities to be certified "Primary Stroke Centers," ensuring the best level of care is available to the public, and that the public knows where to find it.

SB 456 was just introduced, and we need to give it a strong push forward. Tell your Senator we need SB 456 to help North Carolinians be prepared to survive a stroke.

Lack of adequate acute stroke care capabilities in many hospitals endangers the lives of those who suffer a stroke. According to a survey of North Carolina facilities, 69% did not have a stroke team or rapid identification for patients experiencing a stroke. SB 456 assures Primary Stroke Centers have appropriately demonstrated their readiness to treat stroke according to national standards through certification by The Joint Commission.

One in six people worldwide will have a stroke in their lifetime. With stroke the fourth leading cause of death and a leading cause of disability among North Carolinians, we need a strong cornerstone for our stroke systems of care. We need SB 456.
