Sugar-sweetened beverages linked to childhood obesity

The AHA recently named its top 10 advances in heart disease and stroke research. Included at number 6 are two studies that definitively linked the overconsumption of sugar-sweetened beverages to childhood obesity. Also this week, the State Obesity Task Force, of which the AHA is a member, voted to submit among its obesity prevention policy recommendations to the State Legislature, a bill to institute a fee on sugar-sweetened beverages with revenue generated used to fund additional obesity prevention efforts. The bill will be among Gov. Abercrombie's administrative proposals. http://newsroom.heart.org/pr/aha/2012-top-10-advances-in-heart-241901.aspx
