Attend workshops and training in the morning and then put your skills to the test when you meet with your state legislators in the afternoon. This year, we have two issues that students will be able to engage with lawmakers on: raising the minimum age from 18 to 21 to purchase all tobacco products and ensuring ALL Illinois students have access to consistent, quality physical education.
Our day will begin at the Michael J. Howlett Building (on the Capitol Complex) with check-in between 9:00 a.m.-9:30 a.m. Please aim to arrive as close to 9:00 a.m. as possible, as you will have to go through security to enter the building. The morning will kick-off with an Advocacy training at 9:30 a.m. in the Howlett Auditorium. Lunch will be included. The day will conclude at the Illinois State Capitol Building at 3:30 p.m. in the rotunda.
There is no cost to attend, but advance registration is required. A detailed agenda will be provided closer to the event date to all registrants.
*Although the majority of attendees will be high school, college and upper level university students, anyone that is interested in advocating for tobacco 21 and physical education is welcome to attend.
