Small Hearts Deliver a Big Message!

American Heart Association Red Cape Heroes stormed the Capitol on June 10th!  Public servants, advocates and visitors to the Capitol smiled when they saw a group of small children in superhero capes walking the Capitol halls. The children are congenital heart defects survivors and joined their families to advocate for passage of the Pulse Ox bill, which would ensure newborns are screened for critical congenital heart defects before leaving the hospital.

As they met with lawmakers, they delivered hundreds of petitions from fellow supporters of the legislation- and their efforts paid off!  On June 12th, the Senate unanimously passed the Pulse Ox bill.  Now it’s on to Governor Cuomo to be signed into law.
