Show Smoking the Door, PA!

Last month, the BreatheFree PA coalition, hosted a summit on smokefree. As a follow up, on May 17, residents from around the state participated in a tele-townhall to learn more about efforts to protect ALL Pennsylvania workers from secondhand smoke.

Featured speakers included Vanessa Gullage, a former casino worker. She shared her experience as a table dealer where she spent entire shifts working an arms' length from smokers. She urged support of protecting the 18,033 casino workers who are employed at the 12 operating Pennsylvania casinos.

Also, Dr. Mubashir Mumtaz, Chief of Cardiovascular and Thoracic surgery with PinnacleHealth CardioVascular Institute. Dr. Mumtaz discussed the health dangers of secondhand smoke.

Pennsylvania's passed a smokefree law in 2008. Unfortunately, this law contained 12 exemptions - places where smoking is still allowed. Recently, Representative Matt Baker, Chair of the House Health Committee, introduced House Bill 1309, which would address these exemptions.
