What brought you to be an advocate for the American Heart Association?
At the age of 19 I survived a stroke and my journey with an understanding of CVD began. I learned a lot about the mission of the AHA and realized the personal role they play in my own experience.
What issues or policies are you most passionate about and why?
I am most passionate about prevention of CVD because it is 80% preventable. I want to create a culture where we’re proactively dealing with heart disease and stroke rather than reacting.
What is your favorite advocacy memory or experience so far and what made it great?
In college I was an intern in the AHA’s grassroots advocacy department in Washington, D.C. One of my favorite memories was listening to a speech on heart health by Nancy Pelosi on Capitol Hill and getting to write the blog post about it that we shared with supporters.
What is your favorite way to be active?
My favorite way to be active is by attending daily yoga or barre fitness classes. I also love to hike.
What is your favorite fruit or vegetable?
I love them all! Right now my favorites are pomegranates, sweet potatoes, and kale.
