Share Your Story: Marilyn Gagen

Marilyn Gagen, Hawaii

I lost my husband of almost 40 years from a lifetime of smoking resulting in cardiovascular disease. He was just 59 years old. My brother has had five heart attacks and my grandfather died of a heart attack in his early 60s. I am hooked on the mission of the AHA and my real passion now is advocacy.  I have found over the years that the best way to make a difference is changing social norms.

I have participated at the national and state level in issues like funding for research, smoke free workplaces, and now taxes on sugar sweetened beverages and mandatory CPR in schools.
