Share Your Story: Eric Rothenberg

In September 2009 I was playing tennis at our local club when I suffered a sudden cardiac arrest. With no history of heart disease, normal weight range, and reasonable fitness, this was truly “sudden.” Fortunately there were a few doctors playing on adjacent courts and they began CPR within about 30 seconds of me going down. A friend ran and got the club’s AED. They shocked me twice and I was revived before the medics arrived. A few days in the hospital and I walked out with a new implantable cardioverter-defibrillator and the rest of my life in front of me.
