Alona Angosta, Nevada

I am a Nurse Practitioner and an Assistant Professor at the University of Nevada, Las Vegas School of Nursing. Many of my patients, family members, and their friends are victims of heart disease. My research interest is focused on coronary heart disease and its risk factors among Filipino Americans. According to the 2010 U.S. Census, Filipino Americans are the second largest subgroup of Asians in the U.S. and the fastest growing Asian immigrants. Heart disease is the number one killer of Filipino Americans. Despite this, studies related to heart disease in this population are limited. Because of this, I advocate to promote awareness of heart disease in the Filipino American population.
