What brought you to be an advocate for the American Heart Association?
After moving to Des Moines and taking a year sabbatical from advocacy work, I choose AHA because of the great work that has been done nationally and the ability to work on public health issues.
What issues or policies are you most passionate about and why?
I truly believe that more needs to be done on equality in our country. Whether that is health equality, social equality, education equality.
What is your favorite advocacy memory or experience so far and what made it great?
Organizing communities on the Southside of Chicago. Going into the campaign, I knew that it was going to be hard work and that most likely we would lose; however it was the right thing to do. After 2 years we were able to change all of our decision makers’ minds and come out with a win.
What is your favorite way to be active?
Hiking and walking with my wife and our two dogs.
What is your favorite fruit or vegetable?
Who doesn’t love brussel sprouts?
