Senate Bill 80 Vetoed: Turning Disappointment Into Action For New Mexico Heart Health

Have you ever worked hard for something, can see it and then it doesn’t happen? That’s how we feel today about Senate Bill 80 after hearing that it has been vetoed by Governor Susana Martinez. We know you have made phone calls and sent emails, so you probably share in our disappointment. But we have a plan...

Let's turn our disappointment into action and make sure the Governor knows we want to work together to improve care for STEMI, the deadliest of heart attacks. CLICK HERE to email Governor Susana Martinez today!

Senate Bill 80 was the final step in completing the system of care for STEMI heart attack patients across New Mexico and would have encouraged local and regional EMS authorities to work in coordination with the Department of Health to create triage and transport protocols for those who suffer from a STEMI.  A STEMI is more commonly known as the widow maker and is the deadliest form of heart attack one can experience.

We want to make sure you know we appreciate all of your hard work this session to support this bill through four committees and two floor votes, all of which supported the bill unanimously.  While the final decision was not in favor of this lifesaving piece of legislation, we will continue the fight to pass heart-healthy and stroke smart policies with you in the next regular legislative session and any special sessions called by Governor Martinez.

Together, we will continue to advocate for legislation that will create a New Mexico free of cardiovascular disease. Thank you for all your support on Senate Bill 80; without you none of this is possible.

You're The Cure,

Poqueen Rivera
New Mexico Government Relations Director
