RI Advocate Laurie Stephenson receives 2012 Heart of the Mission Award

Rhode Island advocate and congenital heart disease survivor Laurie Stephenson received the 2012 Heart of the Mission Award for Advocacy on November 14 at the RI Volunteer Recognition Reception. The award was presented in recognition of the leadership, commitment and passion that Laurie demonstrated while helping to advance our policy agenda during the 2012 Legislative Session.  Laurie testified before the House Health, Education and Welfare Committee and the Senate Education Committee on our bills related to sharing school facilities with community organizations to promote physical activity and sport. She also participated in RI Lobby Day and communicated with her representative and senator throughout the session on AHA priorities.  Laurie currently serves on the RI Advocacy Committee.

Congratulations Laurie, on this very well-deseved recognition -- and THANK YOU for all that you do to support the mission of the American Heart Association!!!
