Protecting Colorado Kids

It’s time we reduce the deadly toll of tobacco in Colorado and stop the decades long targeting of minority communities by tobacco companies.  Our advocacy network, You’re the Cure is at the center of this fight and we’d like to update you on what we’ve been doing in our state.

We have been fighting to establish state and local policies in Colorado that will help us protect our young people from tobacco use and addiction and provide the resources to help current users quit.  In the last legislative session, we successfully advocated for a tobacco retail license (TRL) law, to help ensure we know who is selling tobacco products and that they are complying with federal, state, and local laws.

Currently we are working on ending the sale of all flavored tobacco products in Denver and Edgewater. Sweet, candy flavors are hooking the next generation on a lifetime of nicotine addiction. Research tells us that 8 out of 10 people who use tobacco start with a flavored product and that is why we believe ending the sale of these enticing flavors is so important.

In the coming weeks, we expect to see more local campaigns take shape including those that end the sale of flavored tobacco, establish local tobacco retail licenses, and others that increase tobacco taxes.

To be successful we will need YOU!

One of the most effective ways to advocate is to share your experience or story about why you are passionate about reducing the toll of tobacco.

Today you can click here and tell us your why.
