Recently, legislation was introduced in the U.S. House of Representatives that would block low-quality, short term insurance plans from being sold across the United States and we need your help to reach our goal of having 100 cosponsors.
The bill, H.R. 1010 would prevent what is known as Short Term, Limited Duration health plans from being offered for an entire year. These plans, while lower in cost, are allowed to discriminate against people with pre-existing conditions and do not cover many of our most basic medical needs and leaves patients vulnerable to high out of pocket health care expenses and medical debt. Short term plans are also able to charge higher rates based on age or sex and offer none of the patient protections we’ve come to expect from ACA compliant plans.
H.R. 1010 has already passed the House Energy and Commerce Committee, but if we want this bill to become law, we need more Congressional support. That’s where you come in!
With your help we know we can achieve our goal of getting 100 cosponsors and help pressure the House of Representatives to take action to prevent these low-quality health care plans from harming patients and consumers.
Please contact your Representative and urge them to cosponsor H.R. 1010 today!
