Gov. Lujan Grisham and bill authors Sen. Leo Jaramillo and Sen. Michael Padilla were at Pinon Elementary School in Santa Fe to sign the bill in front of a large group of fourth graders, as well as other supporters from across the state.

Thanks to your help, our children won't have to worry about the cost of lunch or skip a meal because their family can't afford it. Now, all of New Mexico’s students will have access to free, nutritious meals.

School meals are an integral part of the school day and a contributor to student success, no different than textbooks, technology, transportation, access to school nurses and other services that are provided to all students without cost.

Additionally, this measure will help eliminate the stigma some kids experience through participation in the free and reduced-price school meal program and be a major step in addressing health inequities.

There's still time to thank the legislators who made this possible.
