Legislators Pass Key Bills to Improve Health Care Access

We have exciting news to share! Easy Enrollment (HB 95) was unanimously passed by the Senate and House and now awaits a signature from Gov. Michelle Lujan Grisham. This new law provides an easy way for residents to check a box on annual tax forms to learn if they're eligible for free or low-cost insurance and how to access it.

Since more than 200,000 of our fellow New Mexicans lack access to health care, this is a huge win! Expanding access to coverage helps reduce health disparities and can improve health outcomes while saving the state money by reducing costs and treating minor health conditions before they develop into major, costly to treat health issues.

Additionally, HB 2, which included funding to extend postpartum coverage from two months to one year was passed by the House and Senate. This helps make sure new moms are taking care of their heart health as heart disease is the No. 1 killer of new moms. Extending health care coverage for a full year will help individuals receive the medical care they need to be screened for the development of risk factors like high blood pressure and receive adequate counseling for heart disease and stroke prevention, postpartum depression, substance use, and more.

We could not have done this without your help. Your actions made an impact! Together, we can accomplish anything!

You can still thank our legislators for passing these two great bills that will improve the lives of our friends and neighbors, as well as encourage Gov. Lujan Grisham to sign these bills into law by clicking here.
