Dr. John Warner is no stranger to our advocacy work, having served as Chair of the association’s Advocacy Coordinating Committee for the past 3 years. He’s also been a leading voice in local advocacy initiatives in his native Texas, including smoke-free air, CPR training, and systems of care.

On July 1st, he stepped into a new role- the 81st President of the American Heart Association and American Stroke Association. As president, Warner is chief volunteer scientific and medical officer, responsible for medical, scientific and public health matters. Warner is chairperson of the association’s Science Advisory & Coordinating Committee, remains a member of its Advocacy Coordinating Committee, and is a member of our Corporate Operations Coordinating Committee, Executive Committee, and International Committee.
Beyond his role with the American Heart Association, Dr. Warner is CEO of UT Southwestern Hospitals in Dallas.
