New Year Brings New Opportunities for Heart Healthy Policies in New Hampshire

This month is the start of the 2015-2016 legislative session in New Hampshire. We will soon have the opportunity to share the American Heart Association’s policy priorities with returning lawmakers as well as newly elected Senators and House Representatives. Each year the AHA presents a robust policy agenda for our lawmakers to support that will focus on building healthier lives, free of cardiovascular diseases and stroke in our state. In the coming weeks, You’re The Cure Advocates will receive information to share with lawmakers to gain their support of policies to make our communities healthier and safer including:

  • Encouraging schools to provide healthy nutrition environments for the health and well-being of NH’s children by ensuring standards for competitive foods and snacks sold in schools align with federal guidelines and that children are not exposed to unhealthy food and beverage marketing on school premises;
  • Putting thousands of trained lifesavers in NH communities every year by seeing that all students receive hands-on CPR training prior to their graduation from high school;
  • Ensuring the NH Health Protection Program continues to provide thousands of Granite Staters with access to quality, affordable health care; and,
  • Protecting kids from life-threatening tobacco addiction by raising the tobacco tax significantly and adequately funding prevention and cessation programs.
