Meet McKayla Hoffman

Hello! My name is McKayla Hoffman, and I am a current intern for AHA. I am a junior at Oregon State University, studying Public Health with focus in health promotion and health behavior and a pre-nursing track. I am also finishing a minor in Spanish this year. After graduating, I plan on attending nursing school. From here, it is my goal to obtain a master’s degree in nursing in order to become a nurse practitioner.

I have always had a heavy interest in medicine and public health and knew it was something I would be pursing in the future. Having a position as an intern for this association has granted me the opportunity thus far to gain experience with political and legislative sides of health, which is something I am excited to be able to utilize within my future career path.

After learning background information, the Double Up Food Bucks program is something I am very passionate about. As a college student, financial and local access to healthy food is a constant struggle. Integration of SNAP benefits with farmer’s markets are a change I believe to be highly beneficial in all communities, specifically those that may have difficulties as I have faced. I am grateful to have been given this opportunity to be a part of such a helpful program, and I can’t wait to see where this position takes me!
