My name is Robby Pechillo and I am an 11-year-old congenital heart defect survivor. I had open heart surgery when I was nine-and-a-half months old to close a hole in my heart and remove my pulmonary valve. Six months later, before I was talking or walking, I participated in my first Heart Walk.

I have been to eleven Heart Walks and helped encourage participation in my elementary school’s Jump Rope For Heart events. During my eight years at Hatton Elementary in Southington, our school raised more than $60,000 for the American Heart Association.

I know that sharing my story helps people to understand more about congenital heart defects. It also helps people learn more about their hearts, heart disease and what they can do to prevent it. I also know that by sharing my story, we will be able to get more money for research to save more lives like mine.
