Hello! I’m Chris Turner, and I recently joined the American Heart Association as the new Grassroots Manager here in the Southwest Region. I will be covering New Mexico, Colorado, Wyoming and Oklahoma.

Before joining AHA, I served as the Media & Communications Manager at the Association for Nonsmokers-Minnesota (ANSR). While at ANSR, I worked exclusively on tobacco-control issues, including raising the tobacco sales age to 21 and ending the sale of all flavored tobacco products. I’ve worked with numerous advocates in passing some great policies, and it’s a part of the job I enjoyed most. In particular, I really liked working with youth groups.
It’s amazing to watch young people realize their power and discover their voice. I’m excited to join the American Heart Association and have the opportunity to expand my work into other areas, and to also have the opportunity to work with YOU to help create healthier communities.”
Before joining ANSR, I worked for 18 years as a journalist at various newspapers in Alabama and Georgia.
I am from Alabama originally and now live in Rio Ranch, NM, with my wife, my 1-year-old daughter, and a rescue pup. I enjoy playing softball, gardening, writing, photography and most anything outdoors. During the pandemic, I started baking sourdough bread and discovered I actually enjoy cooking and baking. I’m incredibly excited to join the AHA and the Southwest region teams and to help make a difference for people.
Now that you know a little bit about me, I would love to get to know you. Please email me at [email protected] if you have any questions or would like to share what being an advocate means to you.
