Earlier this month, we came together in Annapolis for our 2020 lobby day. Many advocates and supporters of American Heart Association and our partner organizations came out to talk to legislators about an issue that affects so many Marylanders – ending the tobacco epidemic.

This year we are focusing on 2 issues during legislative session: restricting flavored tobacco usage and raising the tobacco tax. We know that both issues greatly contribute to youth tobacco addiction and adults staying tobacco product users. Our advocates, like youth advocates Lilianna Katz-Hollander and Mia Halper talked to their legislators about why We must do all we can to address youth access to tobacco. They know that the only way to end the youth tobacco epidemic is to end flavored tobacco products – including mint and menthol, and make tobacco products more expensive, where the money will go to tobacco cessation programs. It’s a great way to keep MD youth happy.
Events like Maryland’s Lobby Day show the power of lending our voices to issues that affect us all!
